The Hottest New (Old) Trend In Outdoor Furniture - Adirondack Is Back!

It's not a big surprise that a vintage American design such as the Adirondack Chair has made a comeback in only the last two years. This retro craze is spreading quickly as families all around North America are electing to spend more free time relaxing in their faithfully planned outdoor living space. I remember as a 6 year old kid, sinking into one of these great old chairs, with my feet dangling just over the edge, while my grandpa and I peeled the apples we picked and talked about the apple pie smothered with melting ice cream that we just knew my grandmother was going to have for us after we had supper. With my lemonade on the wide arm rest, the breeze was calm and warm. When Grandpa told his stories it made time fly by. It really is no big mystery why we love to relax outside, whether that is sitting on the porch watching the neighborhood, out on the patio, on the deck, or in your garden area. There just might not be a better way to do that than to sit back in a high backed, wonderful, deep seated Adirondack chair and leave your cares behind.

You're going to be surprised and pleased to find a huge collection of Adirondack style furniture available today. Not only has the original design withstood the winds of time, but the whole Adirondack trend has exploded with a charming selection of styles, colors, finishes, and material. Traditional Adirondack furniture is constructed from wood that is known for resisting bugs and corrosion such as cherry, oak, cypress, or red or white cedar. The wood chosen will vary depending on the part of the country as do individual furniture styles. A hot new addition to classic Adirondack is garden furniture constructed with polymer "lumber" that is literally made out of recycled plastic packaging, old milk cartons, and such. This isn't only an environmentally sound way to purchase furniture, but you also have advantages with durableness, longevity, ease of care, and your colors aren't going to pale since the pigments are mixed through the plastic with UV inhibitors for protection.

So just where exactly did this part of Americana come from? The Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, of course. This furniture style was customary at the numerous resorts and mountain getaways that were in demand in those days. By the time the 1940's came around adirondack was just about every place. The furniture style began moving to the south and was going west fast. As the Adirondack style got more popular, and found its way around the country, regional influences started showing up. The design was utilized in many outdoor furniture styles which include; rocking chairs, gliders, porch swings, benches, and thanks to our Canadian neighbors, a conversation piece called the "tete a tete" which literally means; "head to head". This romantic design incorporates two chairs and a table in between them built as a single piece. What an amazing way to spend a cozy Spring afternoon with a good friend!
