Smoking: Effects On Younger People |
|
|
|
Most of the hard core smokers take their first puff in
their teens and soon it becomes a lifelong habit for them. Most of the
anti-smoking campaigns should target this group as this group is the
most vulnerable one to pick up this addiction. The effects of smoking on
younger people are described below:
1) Smoking reduces young peoples' physical fitness in terms of stamina,
endurance and performance.
2) Smoking at a young age tremendously increases the risk of contracting
lung cancer. This risk increases to a great level as the teenage
smoker continues to smoke throughout his adulthood.
3) On an average, a teenage smoker who smokes a pack of
cigarettes and more and continues with it through his life, lives
almost 7 years less than a non-smoker.
4) The resting heart beats of a young adult smoker is two to three beats
per minute more than a non-smoker. Moreover, teenage smokers suffer
from shortness of breath almost three times as often as a non-smoker.
5) Teenage smokers are three times more likely than a non-smoker to use
alcohol, eight times more likely to use marijuana and as high as
twenty two times more likely to involve in cocaine abuse.
Teenage is the period when the whole life of an individual takes shape.
It is the time when you build your career, your life and your future.
Smoking can pose a big threat to all your plans and programs. So it is
always better to check it in the initial stages itself before the
further damage takes place.
