The question might seem silly to you. Asking this question is just like
asking a drowning man about the right time to pull him out. Is there
actually a right time to quit smoking? Though it is ironical, the question
has its own relevance.
I do not mean to say that keep smoking and
wait for the right time to quit the habit. When you are already aware of
the dangers of smoke then the right time to quit is, now.
Teenager should avoid it as it hampers their growth. Pregnant
women should quit it as soon as they conceive. Older people should
boycott it for the sake of their health. So, practically speaking,
anytime in life is just the right time to stop smoking.
Coming to the facts, people who quit smoking before the age of 50 have half the
risk of dying in the next 16 years compared with people who continue to
smoke. By the age of 64-65, their overall chances of dying are similar
to people of the same age who have never smoked. Older adults who quit
smoking also have a reduced risk of dying from coronary heart disease
and lung cancer. Their chances of suffering a stroke reduce to one third.
The
additional and immediate benefits such as improved circulation, stable
breathing and increased energy are a few good reasons for the older folk
to remain smoke free. It is not at all wise to smoke so quit it today.
The right time is now or never.
