an anti-depressant. In fact, zyban is originally marketed as an
anti-depressant drug only. The effectiveness of zyban was discovered as
smokers using it to treat depression found that after taking it they
lacked the cravings for cigarette. People who are planning to quit find
it much easier to stop by using zyban.
Bupropion present in the
zyban works as an anti-depressant. It is a weak inhibitor of neuronal
inhibitor dopamine, noreoinephrine or serotonin. By increasing the
levels of several chemical messengers in parts of brain, this drug helps
you cope with nicotine withdrawal symptoms and lessens the urge to smoke.
The zyban method is administered when the person is still smoking.
The withdrawal symptoms arise within two weeks from the start. The
course should be continued up to 7 to 9 weeks depending upon the
effects. It is most successfully used with nicotine replacement
therapies such as nicotine patches and nicotine gums.
Zyban tablets should be swallowed entirely as crushing or chewing them
increase your chances of suffering from side effects which include:
1) Dry mouth
2) Dizziness
3) Insomnia
4) Nausea and nasal inflammation
5) Sometimes seizures
You can have these tablets only through a prescription. Do not take more
or less than prescription as it may lead to seizures. It is not proper
to smoke if you are taking this drug with nicotine products. You may
consult your doctor if you suffer from moderate side effects.
