But, you do not have to light up the cigarette again just because you are unable to sleep. Reduce your caffeine intake
It is a known fact that caffeine is a stimulant which makes it difficult to sleep. But, caffeine can be an even bigger problem when you quit smoking. The reason for the same being that the body of a smoker digests caffeine twice as fast as the body of a non-smoker. This leads to a high tolerance to caffeine. Light up a few scented candles around the bath tub. Add a few flower petals to the bathing water. Alternatively, you can even use some scented bath salts. Listen to soothing music
Several studies and researches have shown that soft sounds can go at length in inducing sleep. Try listening to soft and soothing music before you go to sleep. Opt for a player that turns itself off so that you may not have to get up to switch off the player when you are already feeling sleepy.

Have a glass of warm milk
Milk is also known to induce sleep. It contains the amino acid L-tryptophan. This amino acid causes the body to produce a neurotransmitter known as serotonin. Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers that tell our body to shut down at night. For better results, it is advised that you add a little honey and cardamom to your milk.

Read a good book
Reading is one of the sure shot ways to put yourself to sleep. Snuggle in your bed and catch up on a good book. You will fall asleep within a few minutes.
