Quitting smoking, though a tough task, is not impossible. Tobacco contains an addictive substance called nicotine which makes a person addicted. If you can, then take a friend along with you to quit. Notice the time at which you normally smoke. Note down the things you do while smoking, like, driving, having tea or coffee. Fix a particular place for smoking, such as outdoors and try to smoke only at that place. Change the place of keeping cigarette. Try to smoke with other hand. Change the time of smoking. When you feel an urge to smoke, wait for a few minutes, think of doing some other work you have to complete. In this way, divert your mind. Eat something else, drink water. Buy single cigarette at a time. Change the brand of cigarette to one you don't like.

On the day you decide to quit, throw away all the cigarettes you have in your house. If you feel like smoking, take deep breaths for about three to four minutes, and go for a ten minutes walk. Think of your family, your wife, your children, and how hard you have tried to quit. Take nicotine gums or patches every time you feel the urge to smoke. Many times, this habit is missed because people don't have to do anything with their hands.

Learn to sketch or play a guitar. Share this in a support group. Sharing your feelings with someone also going through the same stage will feel nice. If you don't smoke for a whole day, reward yourself at the end of the day. Go for a movie and/or enjoy your favorite meal. Prepare a list of the reasons why you want to quit. Place it everywhere you spend time, and keep on going through it every now and then.

Quitting smoking is not a difficult task. Think you are doing it for yourself, for reducing your expenses, for your health. If you will do it for yourself, instead of doing it for someone else, you can stick more tightly to your goal because you will hold yourself more accountable to yourself. After quitting this bad habit, you will feel proud and be happy. A feeling of achievement will fill you with confidence and you will be a happier person.
